Reel 6: Best of July

Picture of the month: Taken Mont d'Azur, Provence, 13th July. Click for full size
Here's a look back at this month's output and the very best of Reel 6 from July.

In film, Terrence Malick's Palme d'Or winning The Tree of Life turned out to be hugely disappointing and was "fragmentary, lengthy, dull and slumber-inducing" - see the review here.

In TV, Tom won The Apprentice to my absolute bewilderment. The mystery remains unanswered and my reaction can be seen here.

Building up to next month, there is a look ahead to some excellent shows heading to the Edinburgh fringe, available here.

Meanwhile, to mark his excellent documentary on Terrence Rattigan, Reel 6 took a look at the booming career of Benedict Cumberbatch.

And, finally, the most read article on Reel 6 this month was on the sudden and tragic death of Amy Winehouse, which was a very sad end to the month.

Coming up in August: Super 8, Cowboys & Aliens, a review of the Spacey-Mendes production of Richard III, as well as notebook blogging from behind the scenes of the Oxford University Dramatic Society/Thelma Holt production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
